Analysis of Sources for Increased Urban and Rural Land

Among the 57,400 km2of increased global Urban and Rural Land (Table 6), what occupied most are arable land, accounting for 50.26% of the total increase, followed by grassland (21.01%), forest land (13.46%), shrub (6.81%), bare land (5.13%), wetland (1.69%) and waters (1.64%).
Looking at the increased Urban and Rural Land in each continent, the increase in Asia comes from arable land and grassland, which together account for 87.04% of the total. The increase in Europe occupies arable land, grassland and waters, which together account for 82.34%. In Africa, the increase mainly occupies grassland, arable land and forest land, which together account for 83.29%. In North America, the increase occupies arable land, forest land, grassland and shrub, which together account for 90.92% In South America, the increase mainly occupies forest land, arable land, forest land, shrub and bare land, which together account for 98.15%. In Oceania, the increase mainly occupies grassland, forest land and arable land, which together account for 82.55%.
